Heralds of Spring

Springtime in Winchester. A little earlier than usual this year; at this writing the dogwoods and cherry trees are waking early from their chilly slumber, and along the Old Town Mall the magnolias are showing a sneak peek of blossom, unwary that the fine weather of late is but a tease. Merchant awnings are out for more hours, as are the tables and benches and umbrellas that invite passerby to stop and listen to the busker. There is an underlying thrum around town, an unseen but acknowledged excitement for what is happening already and what comes next.

At Edgehill, our open-campus atmosphere encourages alumni to stop by anytime after their residency here has concluded. Former clients come and go in a one-act play that never ends, celebrating the gift of recovery from addiction by giving back to the place that got them where they are today--productive, responsible members of society. They show up ready to pitch in, whether it is clearing brush for a new seating area in the patch of woods out front or slapping a coat of paint on the porch out back. Flowerbeds are weeded and replanted with new life--out with the old, in with new, as it were, an acknowledgement of their life's recent transition.

All around town, residents and proprietors are gearing up for the annual Apple Blossom Festival to take place the first week of May. It is a grand affair for Winchester and the Shenandoah Valley as a whole; crowds numbering in the hundreds of thousands show up to take part in the Festival's parades, dances, music, acts, and much more. Edgehill is happy to accommodate the demand for extra parking during the Festival by offering the use of a field on the east side of the property, with Old Town and the center of the festivities being a five-minute walk away. Five minutes in the other direction is Jim Barnett Park, where the Edgehill softball team is beginning practice for their 2012 season. Most games are played on Eagles Field in the northeast corner of the park, and they are looking for another great season after last year's trip to the playoffs.

There's always something good happening at Edgehill. With every new beginning that comes through our doors, new friends are made and lasting relationships are forged, and our clients are encouraged to "keep coming back".
